Sydney's centres run on Selective, OC and HSC material. Put yours on a platform.
From Parramatta to Hurstville to Castle Hill, NSW centres have built years of practice papers for the Selective High School Placement Test, the Opportunity Class test and the HSC. That material is the business. It should be working between sessions and it should be visible to parents.
Over the last fortnight Priya completed 5 of 6 assigned sets from our Year 6 fractions program. Her accuracy on adding fractions with unlike denominators moved from 25% to 67%, which is the skill we worked on in class on the 14th. Word problems are the next focus.

What tutoring looks like in New South Wales.
- Selective and OC set the calendar
Year 4 families prepare for the Opportunity Class placement test and Year 6 families for the Selective High School Placement Test. Enrolments build in the months before each test and centres are judged on placement results.
- HSC is the senior market
Years 11 and 12 across dozens of subjects, with past-paper practice at the centre of every program and extended responses to mark every week.
- NAPLAN in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
A Term 1 spike for many centres, and a retention problem in Term 2 once it has passed.
- Diaspora-run centres refer each other
Western and north-western Sydney in particular. A centre that sends a fortnightly report becomes the one the WhatsApp group talks about.
Your program, whichever it is.
We supply no material for any of these. Your practice papers and notes become the program, on your own platform.
| Program | Years | Typically |
|---|---|---|
| Opportunity Class placement test | Year 4, for Year 5 entry | Reading, mathematical reasoning, thinking skills. |
| Selective High School Placement Test | Year 6, for Year 7 entry | Reading, mathematical reasoning, thinking skills, writing. |
| NAPLAN | Years 3, 5, 7, 9 | Reading, writing, conventions of language, numeracy. |
| HSC | Years 11 and 12 | Past papers, module notes, extended responses. |
| Independent school scholarships | Years 5 to 8 typically | ACER and other scholarship tests. |
- Term 1 planning happens in November and December, before the summer break.
- Selective and OC preparation builds from September through to the test dates.
- Term 4 is where students drift. The fortnightly report through Terms 1 to 3 is what changes the Term 4 conversation.
Whose material is it?
The Statutory Education Licence under the Copyright Act 1968 covers tutoring organisations as well as schools, which is what makes copying from published texts legitimate for a licensed centre. Ask whether your centre holds one. Material you wrote yourself needs no licence at all. Confirm your position with your own adviser.
Do you supply Selective or OC practice material?
Can you time a paper like the placement test?
Priced so a few retained students pays for it.
One setup fee, one monthly fee, everything included in every plan. Not per student, because we want every student on it.
