StudyPro
For parents

You pay every term. What do you get to see?

Your child gets 90 minutes a week at the centre and six days without it. You get an invoice. The centre almost certainly has years of excellent material. It just can't tell you what happened between sessions, because nothing did. Here's what it could look like, and how to ask.

Weeks 3 and 4, Term 1
Year 6 Selective, Tuesday 4pm
Dear Mr and Mrs Sharma,

Over the last fortnight Priya completed 5 of 6 assigned sets from our Year 6 fractions program. Her accuracy on adding fractions with unlike denominators moved from 25% to 67%, which is the skill we worked on in class on the 14th. Word problems are the next focus.

What it would look like

Every second Friday, from your centre.

One page. What your child worked on, how much, what improved by topic, what's next. Signed by the tutor. Sent from the centre's email, not ours. You never see our name and you never need a login.

  • Homework from the centre's own material, on your child's phone, marked the moment it's done
  • When they're stuck at 9pm, an explanation from the centre's worksheet, not from the open internet
  • The tutor sees on Monday what the class got wrong, so Tuesday's lesson is about it
  • You see improvement by topic, before and after, not a list of logins

Question 7

Add 3/4 and 2/5. Give your answer in simplest form.

5/9
23/20
6/20
1 3/20
Explanation
from your worksheet

You can't add fifths to quarters directly. Find a denominator both share: 20. So 3/4 becomes 15/20 and 2/5 becomes 8/20. 15/20 + 8/20 = 23/20, which is 1 3/20.

Ask your centre

Here's what to say.

Centres are run by people who care and are busy. Most have never been asked. Copy the message, change the names, and send it to the owner. It isn't a complaint. It's a request for something they'd probably love to give you.

Ask the owner, not the tutor

The owner decides. A casual tutor can't.

Ask for the report, not the software

What you want is proof of progress. How they produce it is their call.

Mention the material

Every centre is proud of its worksheets. Asking to see them working between lessons is a compliment.

Hi,

My child is getting a lot out of the lessons and I wanted to ask about something.

Between sessions I don't really get to see what's being worked on or what's improving. Would it be possible to get a short progress report every couple of weeks: what was covered, what got better, what's next? Even a page would be great.

I also wondered whether the worksheets from class could be set as practice during the week and marked, so they can keep going between lessons. I've seen that some centres run their own material on a platform with their name on it (studypro.co.nz).

No pressure at all. I just think the material you've built is excellent and I'd love to see more of it in the week.

Thanks,
Or let us ask for you

Tell us which centre you'd like to see on it.

We'll contact the centre, mention that a parent asked, and show them what it would look like with their own material. We won't share your name or details with them unless you tick the box. We never sell to parents and we never will.

We'll use these details to contact the centre you named and to let you know what they said. Nothing else.

Questions parents ask

Straight answers.

  • Why doesn't my tutoring centre send progress reports?

Most centres have excellent material and no system to track work between sessions, so there's nothing to report on. It isn't that they don't care. It's that homework on paper can't tell anyone anything. A platform built from the centre's own material fixes that, and the report is the result.

  • What should a tutoring progress report include?

What your child worked on, how much, what improved by topic (before and after), and what's next. One page, every fortnight, from the centre, with the tutor's name on it. Not a login, not a dashboard.

  • Is this something I can buy for my child directly?

No. StudyPro is only ever provided through a tutoring centre, built from that centre's material, under that centre's name. We never sell to parents. Ask your centre.

  • What does a parent receive?

Every fortnight, a report with your logo, from your address: what their child worked on, how much, what improved in plain words, and what's next. You can edit it before it sends or let it go automatically.

  • Do students need an app?

No. It works in the browser on any phone, tablet or laptop, at your web address. Nothing to install, nothing for a parent to approve in an app store.

  • Can students message each other or a tutor through it?

Students can't message each other, and there are no public profiles. A centre can switch on tutor-to-student messages for its own tutors; it's off by default and the centre controls it. Your child-safety answer stays simple.

  • I'm a parent. My centre doesn't offer this. What do I do?

Ask them. Most centres have years of excellent material and have never had a way to put it to work between lessons. There's a page on this site written for exactly that conversation, with a message you can copy.
