Since the QCE moved to external assessment and ATAR, senior tutoring in Queensland has become past-paper driven. Add the Queensland Academies and independent school scholarships and Brisbane centres have years of material that should be working between sessions.
Over the last fortnight Priya completed 5 of 6 assigned sets from our Year 6 fractions program. Her accuracy on adding fractions with unlike denominators moved from 25% to 67%, which is the skill we worked on in class on the 14th. Word problems are the next focus.

External assessment in Units 3 and 4 means past-paper practice and marking against criteria are now central to every senior program.
- Queensland Academies are selective
Entry to the Queensland Academies for Science, Mathematics and Technology, Health Sciences, and Creative Industries is by application and testing, and preparation programs exist for it.

Brisbane's independent schools run scholarship rounds that bring Year 5 to 8 families into centres.

A dense corridor of diaspora-run centres where word of mouth decides enrolment.
